Co-founder of Makerbot, Bre Pettis acquires milling machine firm Other Machine
Former CEO and co-founder of 3D printing firm Makerbot, Bre Pettis has acquired a non 3D printing associated firm – the CNC milling device firm Other Machine.
Californian firm, Other Machine operates from Berkeley and is the designer of the Othermill Pro desktop milling device. Bre Pettis now acts as CEO and founding father of Bre & Co, set up in 2016, the firm creates personalized 3D printed gifts and heirlooms.
Other Machine presented its Othermill product line on Kickstarter with the original machine getting more than $311,000 back in 2013. The latest device, the Othermill Pro, right now sells for $3,199.
Making use of its 3-axis toolhead, the machine has the potential to mill Circuit Boards and carve 3D shapes. The principle feature of the product is being able to be incorporated in an office setup. The Othermill Pro is sufficiently little to fit on a worktable, quiet enough to feature in a social workplace and can hasten up production processes by creating in-house in place of outsourcing.
Apart from hardware machines, the Berkeley firm also has created its very own Otherplan software for the CNC machines. Bre Pettis claims he is “thrilled” to purchase Other Machine as,
The Othermill Pro is surely an marvelous milling machine that is so exact that electrical engineers has the ability to mill Circuit Boards with 6 mil traces and create Circuit Boards quicker than a Circuit Board service. I’m psyched to return in the arena assisting innovators.

CEO of Other Machine, Dr. Danielle Applestone describes, “I anticipate building on our commitment of accessible prototyping machines for specialist engineers and empowering a generation of students who benefit from the Othermill Pro to learn and make their concepts a real possibility.”
Applestone in addition mentioned she will carry on in her role as CEO and is “delighted to have Bre’s support.”
