Co-founder of Makerbot, Bre Pettis purchases milling machine company Other Machine

Former CEO and co-founder of 3D printing firm Makerbot, Bre Pettis has acquired a non 3D printing related business – the CNC milling equipment corporation Other Machine.

American corporation, Other Machine operates from Berkeley and is the inventor of the Othermill Pro desktop milling equipment. Bre Pettis currently works as CEO and founder of Bre & Co, set up in 2016, the corporation creates custom 3D printed gifts and heirlooms.

Othermill Pro

Other Machine marketed its Othermill series on Kickstarter with the original machine getting more than $311,000 back in 2013. The latest equipment, the Othermill Pro, now retails for $3,199.

With the help of its 3-axis toolhead, the machine can mill PWBs and carve 3D shapes. The most crucial selling point of the machine is being able to be incorporated in an office setup. The Othermill Pro is sufficiently little to fit on a workdesk, quiet enough to feature in a social working environment and can facilitate production processes by creating in-house rather than outsourcing.

Aside from hardware equipment, the Berkeley company has also made its own Otherplan software for the CNC machines. Bre Pettis states he is “thrilled” to buy Other Machine as,

The Othermill Pro is surely an exceptional milling machine that’s so exact that electrical engineers can easily mill PWBs with 6 mil traces and develop PWBs faster than a PWB service. I’m fired up to return in the arena helping innovators.

PWBs and electronics

CEO of Other Machine, Dr. Danielle Applestone clarifies, “I anticipate building on our commitment of accessible prototyping machines for specialist engineers and empowering countless of students using the Othermill Pro to learn and make their thoughts a fact.”

Applestone in addition said she’ll proceed in her position as CEO and is “delighted to have Bre’s help.”
