This is the first step in creating a single sided PCB on a CNC machine.
This was only my second time doing this so I still haven’t got much of a clue as to what settings to use. As such I managed to break the tip of the cutting bit – even so, the board turned out ok 🙂
Next time I need to use a higher spindle speed and reduce the feedrate a bit.
Milling bit was a 60deg “MIL 8-12 Universal” part from Midwest Circuit Technology. A very nice bit but I recommend trying your hand at PCB milling with the cheap $2 V-cutters first… otherwise expensive mistakes are made.

Co-founder of Makerbot, Bre Pettis buys milling machine firm Other Machine
Former CEO and co-founder of 3D printing business Makerbot, Bre Pettis has purchased a non 3D printing related business – the CNC milling machine company Other Machine.
Californian company, Other Machine operates from Berkeley and is the maker of the Othermill Pro desktop milling machine. Bre Pettis at this time functions as CEO and founder of Bre & Co, set up in 2016, the company creates personalised 3D printed gifts and heirlooms.
Other Machine brought in its Othermill series on Kickstarter with the original machine getting in excess of $311,000 back in 2013. The most current machine, the Othermill Pro, at this point retails for $3,199.
With the help of its 3-axis toolhead, the machine has the potential to mill Printed Wiring Boards and carve 3D shapes. The principle selling feature of the equipment is its ability to be incorporated in an office setup. The Othermill Pro is sufficiently small enough to fit on a desk, tranquil enough to feature in a community working place and can increase the speed of production processes by creating in-house rather than outsourcing.
Along with hardware equipment, the Berkeley firm has additionally introduced its unique Otherplan software for the CNC machines. Bre Pettis declares he is “thrilled” to purchase Other Machine as,
The Othermill Pro is an awesome milling machine that’s so exact that electrical engineers can easily mill Printed Wiring Boards with 6 mil traces and develop Printed Wiring Boards more rapidly than a Printed Wiring Board service. I’m enthralled to be back in the arena assisting innovators.
Printed Wiring Boards and electronic devices
CEO of Other Machine, Dr. Danielle Applestone explains, “I look ahead to building on our commitment of accessible prototyping machines for professional engineers and empowering a number of of students who benefit from the Othermill Pro to learn and make their concepts a real possibility.”
Applestone likewise suggested she’ll continue on in her position as CEO and is “delighted to get Bre’s support.”
