Co-founder of Makerbot, Bre Pettis acquires milling machine firm Other Machine

Ex-CEO and co-founder of 3D printing company Makerbot, Bre Pettis has acquired a non 3D printing related company – the CNC milling machine firm Other Machine.

American firm, Other Machine operates from Berkeley and is the producer of the Othermill Pro desktop milling machine. Bre Pettis now works as CEO and founder of Bre & Co, established in 2016, the firm creates customized 3D printed presents and heirlooms.

Othermill Pro

Other Machine released its Othermill products on Kickstarter with the original machine getting more than $311,000 back in 2013. The most recent machine, the Othermill Pro, presently retails for $3,199.

Utilizing its 3-axis toolhead, the machine has the capability to mill PWBs and carve 3D shapes. The key selling feature of the system is its ability to be incorporated in an office setup. The Othermill Pro is sufficiently small enough to fit on a work desk, calm enough to feature in a social working place and can accelerate production processes by creating in-house rather than outsourcing.

Together with hardware machinery, the Berkeley firm also has produced its very own Otherplan software for the CNC machines. Bre Pettis states he is “thrilled” to purchase Other Machine as,

The Othermill Pro is an awesome milling machine which is so exact that electrical engineers has the ability to mill PWBs with 6 mil traces and build PWBs more rapidly than a PWB service. I’m enthusiastic to be back in the arena assisting forerunners.

PWBs and electronic devices

CEO of Other Machine, Dr. Danielle Applestone describes, “I look forward to building on our commitment of accessible prototyping machines for specialist engineers and empowering a generation of students using the Othermill Pro to learn and make their ideas a reality.”

Applestone furthermore stated she’ll carry on in her position as CEO and is “delighted to have Bre’s support.”
