Heres my selfmade portal milling machine i build this weekend.
Co-founder of Makerbot, Bre Pettis acquires milling machine company Other Machine
Ex-CEO and co-founder of 3D printing business Makerbot, Bre Pettis has acquired a non 3D printing associated business – the CNC milling machine corporation Other Machine.
Californian corporation, Other Machine operates from Berkeley and is the designer of the Othermill Pro desktop milling machine. Bre Pettis presently works as CEO and founder of Bre & Co, set up in 2016, the corporation creates unique 3D printed gifts and heirlooms.
Other Machine brought out its Othermill series on Kickstarter with the original machine getting more than $311,000 back in 2013. The most up-to-date machine, the Othermill Pro, at this time is sold for $3,199.
With the use of its 3-axis toolhead, the machine has the capability to mill PCB Boards and carve 3D shapes. The chief feature of the equipment is its capability to be incorporated in an office setup. The Othermill Pro is sufficiently small enough to fit on a worktable, calm enough to feature in a communal workplace and can accelerate production processes by creating in-house instead of contracting out.
Combined with hardware equipment, the Berkeley company furthermore has created its very own Otherplan software for the CNC machines. Bre Pettis states he is “thrilled” to invest in Other Machine as,
The Othermill Pro is an wonderful milling machine that is so accurate that electrical engineers has the capability to mill PCB Boards with 6 mil traces and build PCB Boards more rapidly than a PCB Board service. I’m energized to return in the arena helping innovators.
PCB Boards and electronics
CEO of Other Machine, Dr. Danielle Applestone explains, “I look ahead to building on our commitment of accessible prototyping machines for professional engineers and empowering a generation of students who utilize the Othermill Pro to learn and make their concepts be realized.”
Applestone furthermore pointed out she will continue in her role as CEO and is “delighted to get Bre’s help.”
