Co-founder of Makerbot, Bre Pettis acquires milling machine company Other Machine
Former CEO and co-founder of 3D printing company Makerbot, Bre Pettis has bought a non 3D printing relevant firm – the CNC milling device enterprise Other Machine.
Californian enterprise, Other Machine operates from Berkeley and is the inventor of the Othermill Pro desktop milling device. Bre Pettis right now functions as CEO and founding father of Bre & Co, set up in the year 2016, the enterprise creates customised 3D printed gifts and heirlooms.
Other Machine released its Othermill products on Kickstarter with the original machine raising in excess of $311,000 back in 2013. The newest device, the Othermill Pro, now is sold for $3,199.
With the aid of its 3-axis toolhead, the machine can mill Printed Circuits and carve 3D shapes. The most important selling point of the product is its capability to be incorporated in an office setup. The Othermill Pro is sufficiently small enough to fit on a workdesk, noiseless enough to feature in a communal working environment and can boost production processes by creating in-house rather than contracting out.
Together with hardware machines, the Berkeley company has additionally developed its distinctive Otherplan software for the CNC machines. Bre Pettis says he is “thrilled” to acquire Other Machine as,
The Othermill Pro is surely an superb milling machine which is so precise that electrical engineers has the ability to mill Printed Circuits with 6 mil traces and create Printed Circuits more rapidly than a Printed Circuit service. I’m enthralled to return in the arena helping forerunners.

CEO of Other Machine, Dr. Danielle Applestone describes, “I look ahead to building on our commitment of accessible prototyping machines for expert engineers and empowering numerous of students using the Othermill Pro to learn and make their concepts a real possibility.”
Applestone additionally stated she will proceed in her role as CEO and is “excited to get Bre’s assistance.”
