DIY PCB Milling Machine – Part 2 – Linear Sliders

Welcome to another episode of this PCB Milling machine build. In this second episode I will be building the smooth rods on which the X-Axis and Y-Axis will slide. I have bought these LM8UU linear bearings. that go on these 8mm smooth rod shafts. Now I have to design a holder for these and some blocks to hold the linear bearings. Lets dive in.

Co-founder of Makerbot, Bre Pettis acquires milling machine company Other Machine

Ex-CEO and co-founder of 3D printing firm Makerbot, Bre Pettis has purchased a non 3D printing related company – the CNC milling equipment company Other Machine.

Californian company, Other Machine operates from Berkeley and is the inventor of the Othermill Pro desktop milling equipment. Bre Pettis now works as CEO and founder of Bre & Co, set up in the year 2016, the company creates customised 3D printed presents and heirlooms.

Othermill Pro

Other Machine introduced its Othermill product line on Kickstarter with the original machine raising more than $311,000 back in 2013. The latest equipment, the Othermill Pro, at the moment retails for $3,199.

With the use of its 3-axis toolhead, the machine has the capability to mill Printed Circuits and carve 3D shapes. The chief characteristic of the system is its capability to be incorporated in an office setup. The Othermill Pro is sufficiently little to fit on a worktable, soundless enough to feature in a social workplace and can hasten production processes by creating in-house in place of contracting out.

Coupled with hardware machinery, the Berkeley company in addition has introduced its distinctive Otherplan software for the CNC machines. Bre Pettis says he is “thrilled” to acquire Other Machine as,

The Othermill Pro is surely an breathtaking milling machine that’s so exact that electrical engineers can easily mill Printed Circuits with 6 mil traces and develop Printed Circuits faster than a Printed Circuit service. I’m delighted to be back in the arena boosting innovators.

Printed Circuits and electronic devices

CEO of Other Machine, Dr. Danielle Applestone makes clear, “I sit up for building on our commitment of accessible prototyping machines for professional engineers and empowering a generation of students using the Othermill Pro to learn and make their thoughts possible.”

Applestone also pointed out she will go on in her position as CEO and is “excited to have Bre’s help.”
