The first attempt to mill pcbs with my own made milling machine. Everything went quite well. The G-code was good and milling head milled pcb quite fast. The only and major problem is, that bits are milling too wide insulation (0.45 mm) so I need to work for that.

Co-founder of Makerbot, Bre Pettis acquires milling machine company Other Machine

Former CEO and co-founder of 3D printing company Makerbot, Bre Pettis has bought a non 3D printing related company – the CNC milling device company Other Machine.

Californian company, Other Machine operates from Berkeley and is the creator of the Othermill Pro desktop milling device. Bre Pettis at the moment functions as CEO and founding father of Bre & Co, founded in 2016, the company creates personalized 3D printed gifts and heirlooms.

Othermill Pro

Other Machine marketed its Othermill products on Kickstarter with the original machine getting over $311,000 back in 2013. The most recent device, the Othermill Pro, presently is sold for $3,199.

Employing its 3-axis toolhead, the machine has the potential to mill Printed Circuit Boards and carve 3D shapes. The principle selling feature of the product is its ability to be incorporated in an office setup. The Othermill Pro is sufficiently little to fit on a worktable, quiet enough to feature in a community working place and can accelerate production processes by creating in-house as opposed to contracting out.

In addition to hardware systems, the Berkeley company has also introduced its very own Otherplan software for the CNC machines. Bre Pettis declares he is “thrilled” to purchase Other Machine as,

The Othermill Pro is surely an impressive milling machine that’s so accurate that electrical engineers can mill Printed Circuit Boards with 6 mil traces and build Printed Circuit Boards more quickly than a Printed Circuit Board service. I’m enthralled to return in the arena helping leaders.

Printed Circuit Boards and electronic products

CEO of Other Machine, Dr. Danielle Applestone clarifies, “I stay up for building on our commitment of accessible prototyping machines for expert engineers and empowering countless of students who use the Othermill Pro to learn and make their ideas a reality.”

Applestone also said she will continue in her position as CEO and is “delighted to get Bre’s assistance.”
